When I was researching different types of gashapon machines (ガチャポン マシーン coin vending machines) for the Acron Rider project, I came across a nostalgic table-top coin vending machine. This plastic crystal ball tells today’s horoscope for 10 Taiwanese dollars. Insert the 10 dollar coin into one of the opens on top and push the handle, a rolled up piece of paper will fall out containing today’s horoscope and something more.
What’s brilliant about this vending machine is the roulette top. It spins and generates a random number with the tiny metal ball inside upon vending. It not only makes the whole experience more interesting but also adds variety to the pre-printed fortune. Besides the general information on today’s horoscope, there is one section on the paper containing numerous numbered messages. The user can find corresponded messages based on the number on the roulette for more specific and personalized readings.
Come to think of it, this memory piece will also work well with the Fortune AR project. Fortuneteller AR No.2!! The rolled-up paper can contain both pre-printed fortune and an AR marker for interactive fortunetelling. I am going to use STYLY mobile AR to handle the AR contents. This is going to be fun!!
